Sunset shorts

I hand painted these Gap shorts from the thrift store and sewed tribal fabric on the insides of the pockets. The tribal print was originally from a floor length skirt entirely made of this fabric but I just loved the print so much I bought the skirt and cut it up.

The Statement Shorts

   These shorts obviously make a statement to a problem that women face everyday. These shorts are very dear to me and touch on a subject that I feel very strongly about. As an advocate for women's rights and equality I will continue to make/wear clothes that will make men drool at a woman's feet or make them feel...uncomfortable.

  "His opinion does not define you." I got the quote from a picture painted all pink with a girls eyes, nose and lips; sort of, hiding behind the quote. And I just fell in love with it. I bought the shorts at the thrift store (of course) and when I tried them on at home I immediately said "red lace." So, I bought a yard of red lace and got straight to work. I hand sewed the lace myself, which kind of took a while but I loved doing it. Now, my intention was to have just the red lace and nothing else. I texted my friend and asked for her advice. She told me "I like the simplicity but, you can up your game." I agreed and took her advice and the pink piece of art came into sight. I just absolutely love the end result.

The statement shorts are kind of like the 'lingerie' of shorts. They're black and have red lace and a little short-they're just alluring. And when a guy sees you in these shorts they're gonna be like "Damn." or maybe think "She's a slut for wearing those shorts." And I just want you beautiful ladies to know that HIS OPINION DOES NOT DEFINE YOU. If a man thinks you're too fat, ugly, doesn't like the way you dress or talk or your ideas-always remember that his opinion doesn't matter, yours does. Don't let a man tell you how to act or look. I just don't want you to

 change outfits while you look at yourself in the mirror because you're worried people will judge you. Please wear what you want to wear. I promise darling, you look flawless.

Risky

I love to take bold risks. Bold is what catches people's attention. Bold is what people remember. That's defiantly what I've chosen here.

I've paired this florescent flower print blazer with a thin black turtleneck shirt and black jeans. I found this blazer at Plato's Closet(they take brand clothing and resale them for much cheaper) for $8. When I first saw the jacket I'll admit I debated on getting it but, it was the loudest piece in the whole store and I loved that. I always have to take the most prominent piece of clothing in the store. I always shoot for clothes that people don't have or are not trending at the moment. 

So, when I tried it on at home I was in awe. The jacket fit me like a glove. I felt so great in this divine piece of art. It's now one of my favorite pieces I own. I want to encourage everyone to take a bold risk and wear something notable because, that's when people will stop and turn their heads.  

Altering

Altering clothes is fairly new to me. In elementary school I remember trying to sew a dress out of this cheap Valentine's fabric with a bunch of pink and red hearts on it. I was sewing with a tiny beginner sewing machine my Grandma had gave me as a present. I was so excited about that simple heart dress. Years later, my freshman year in High School, me and some friends bought shorts from the thrift store and fabric from Wal-Mart and created cute summer shorts. Also, I had done some small projects on the side. So, in a way, the relationship has been off and on.

I've never taken a sewing class. I'm teaching myself but, I am really open to help. I do get very frustrated as times due to not knowing what the hell to do if the thread gets all tangled while hand sewing or how to know what tension setting I'm supposed to put the machine on. I'ts all a very concentrated process but, I love the end result.

Introduction

  I, myself would describe my style as sophisticated grunge. I believe, you always have to have some class in the clothes that you're wearing; as well as some ruggedness. The two combined seem paradoxical but, I believe I can fuse the two perfectly.
  In this outfit, I am wearing a St. John's Bay grey turtleneck with a grey blazer from JcPenny and nude Calvin Klein slacks with an H&M belt. The necklace is from Forever 21 and the watch-Charming Charlies. Now, believe it or not this outfit cost only about $45. The turtleneck as well as the Calvin Klein pants are from the Thrift Store only costing about $2 each! That right there ladies and gents is my whole concept. Thrifting Your Style. You can find clothes from the Thrift Store and find beauty by styling them accordingly. Mix and match, cut and sew.
  That old pink t-shirt that you found for $1.50 isn't just an old pink shirt. Cut an in' or 2 off the hem, cut off the sleeves, sew some new fabric on the collar, paint designs. Think about what you already have in your closet or what you can pair with that piece of clothing. That's what I do. I take clothes that people don't want anymore and alter/mix and match them to become what they once were.
  I love clothes so much and I see potential in that pink shirt. Fashion isn't about labels and designers; it's about creativity. So, the next time you go to the Thrift Store keep an eye out for potential and you too, can have great style for a couple bucks.
